Learning braille, one dot at a time
Braille is built from something beautifully simple: six dots. Every letter of the alphabet is a pattern of raised dots arranged in two columns of three, and once a child learns the patterns, the whole alphabet opens up.
How our braille lessons work
- Learn braille letters — children explore the six-dot cell, learn which dots represent each letter, and connect the tactile patterns to letters of the alphabet
- Hear letters and words — the app speaks a letter or word aloud, in English or Spanish, so children connect braille patterns with spoken language
- Practice through activities — children match braille patterns to letters, identify words, and complete learning challenges with audio feedback
Screen pictures of the dot patterns are a helpful companion, but they are not a substitute for real tactile braille materials. We always encourage families to pair on-screen practice with hands-on braille.
